Ye olde ninja turned 24 last week. Perks of working with a birthday boy is getting invited to the work festivities and post work dinner party.
To the dismay of cake purists, Mark’s request for something ‘with fruit’ led to an apple pie. Myself and Rutger our resident Dutchman weren’t too fazed by it but based on apparent precedent (cakes at our workplace get inhaled faster than you can say ‘pee are’), no one was a real fan. Sorry Mark!
A selection of the food we had that night. Left to right: Kingfish Miso Ceviche, Hokkaido Scallop Yuzu Honey, Dengakuman + Wagyu 7+ Ribeye, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, a hungry ninja and Queensland Sushi Roll. The Queensland roll is my personal favourite and always a must order for me when I come to Sokyo, I love how it’s wrapped in soy paper.
Sokyo isn’t the place to go if you’re trying to skimp as portions aren’t large at all, but the quality of everything is over the top. There wasn’t a dish I didn’t enjoy, but then again there probably isn’t a dish on the menu that I wouldn’t enjoy. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal, especially with everyone else there who happened to be foodies too.
Group photo of us at Sokyo after dinner.
We ninja-ed the ninja on his birthday! Claire organised getting Messina’s Bombe Alaska. The italian meringue was like really like marshmallow, not at all too sweet, while the raspberry sorbet and chocolate fondant was such a great combination. Thanks for the invite to dinner Mark, here’s to celebrating many more birthdays with you.
