While I was born and raised in Malaysia, I’ve been very privileged to have had the opportunity to live in several places overseas. Tokyo by far has been the most enriching experience to date and probably the only city I ever saw myself living long term.
It was during my 2017 trip to Tokyo that I had a serious epiphany and wrote this love letter about how I felt and began to start working towards starting a life in Japan. Finally in October 2018, I was able to get a transfer within the company I worked at the time. This is the post I wrote a little after moving into my very own apartment. Prior to this point, I still thought me being in Tokyo was still a dream!
For my one year anniversary of living in Japan, I talk about the exhilarating highs and impossible downs that I was able to overcome. Everything is all in the name of experience, and when you love the city you’re in as much as I do, you feel like every sacrifice made was worth it.
Whether you’re already here or thinking about moving to this incredible city or simply just want to get a glimpse on what it’s like to be a foreigner in Tokyo, the articles below will be helpful.
More to come!
